Representatives of five of the Christian Churches in St. Ives came together for the first time at a meeting in the Social Centre and Rest Room on 7th June 1967, when a constitution was agreed and priorities to work together during Holy Week and at Christmas Time, were decided upon.

Thirty-eight years later, Churches Together in St. Ives is a thriving Committee with representation of clergy and laity from the Anglican, Assemblies of God, Methodist, New Frontiers International, Roman Catholic and United Reformed Churches. The Committee meets regularly, five times a year in each other's buildings.

The initial objectives of that first meeting of worshipping and working together during Holy Week and Christmas have certainly been fulfilled. An annual procession of witness on Good Friday through the town to a United Service, held outside the Free Church draws large numbers from the member Churches, giving credence to our common witness. In the last few years a Live Crib has spread the true message of Christmas to our fellow townsfolk and beyond.

Over the years, Church members have prayed, worshipped, discussed, evangelised, protested and worked together to assist the poor and disadvantaged, both at home and abroad, through our support of Christian Aid and Fair Trade. It is evident that we have moved from cooperation to commitment to one another.

Through this website, it is hoped that our joint ventures will become more widely known and attract greater support for Christians, not only in St. Ives and the surrounding areas, but for those seeking to find a deeper meaning to life.
